Marilyn Monroe X-rays Auction
Marilyn Monroe, hollywood sex symbol had undergone plastic surgery will be up for sale next month along with a set of her X-rays. The set of six X-rays and a file of doctors’ notes that offer a partial medical history of Marilyn from 1950 to 1962. According to Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, It is expected to fetch between $15,000 and $30,000 (U.S.) at auction on November 9-10.
The seller, who is so far unnamed, received the items as a gift from Michael Gurdin- Hollywood plastic surgeon.
“Nobody really thought about Marilyn Monroe having plastic surgery. It was always speculation – did she or didn’t she?” said Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions. “They thought she was such a natural beauty, they didn’t want to believe.”
According to one article- Hollywood and plastic surgery, “Donald Spoto, in Marilyn Monroe, the Biography, credits late plastic surgeon Michael Gurdin with inserting a silicone prosthesis in her jaw…to give her face a softer line and removing a slight bump of cartilage from the tip of [her] nose. According to A. Richard Grossman, a plastic surgeon who worked with Gurdin in 1964, Pangman also gave Monroe breast implants. They were probably made of Ivalon sponge, the toublesome material that predated silicone into her breasts. Shortly before her death In 1962, “Marilyn’s breasts were infected. They were oozing,” says Rosemary Ashley Eckersley, the widow of Franklin Ashley, Hollywood’s other prominent plastic surgeon of that era.”
Marilyn Monroe once supposedly said “When my looks start to go, so will most of my fans.”
The final years of Monroe’s life were marked by illness, personal problems, and a reputation for unreliability and being difficult to work with. The circumstances of her death, from an overdose of barbiturates. Though officially classified as a “probable suicide”, the possibilities of an accidental overdose or a homicide have not been ruled out. TV Guide Network named her No. 1 in Film’s Sexiest Women of All Time. Monroe was ranked as the sixth-greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute.
Monroe had three marriages, all of which ended in divorce.
