GTA 5 sales breaks all the records of gaming world
Based on internal estimates of Take-Two Interactive believes that Grand Theft Auto 5 sales have crossed $1 billion during its first three days. They said it believed that GTA V sales “mark the fastest (of) any entertainment property, including video games and feature films”. If these estimates are correct, then GTA 5 has beaten the previous record by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 last year, which hit the billion milestone in 15 days.
Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment,” Chairman and CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick said in a press release. “We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V.”
Take-Two’s unit Rockstar Games invested 5 years for developing this game, with rumored production cost of around “$270 million” which is larger than the budgets of most big-budget films. Grand Theft Auto V is currently available for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. The title is rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB.
The fifth instalment in the GTA series is set in a fictional city of Los Santos based on real-world Los Angeles and its nearby hills and beaches.
It is billed by the New York City-based videogame publisher as the “largest and most ambitious” title in a franchise that has sold more than 114 million copies since its debut in 1997.
Grand Theft Auto IV blew away videogame and Hollywood records by raking in an unprecedented $US500 million in the week after its release in 2008.
