Cristiano Ronaldo wins the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013.
28 years old Portuguese footballer who plays as a forward for Spanish club Real Madrid and captains the Portugal national team, Cristiano Ronaldo wins 2013 Ballon d’Or award by preventing his great rival Lionel Messi from winning the award for a fifth year in a row. Ronaldo put up 69 goals last year where Messi scored 56 goals in all competitions last year.
Ronaldo was also voted FIFA Player of the Year in 2008 but after that Lionel Messi won the Ballon D’Or for the next four years from 2009 to 2012.
He had tears in his eyes yesterday as he accepted his second Ballon D’Or as the world’s best soccer player at the annual FIFA awards gala in Zurich, Switzerland. Ronaldo said, “There are no words to describe this moment, I can’t expect a better night than this one ever in my dreams. I have to be proud of my work and what I did during the year.Thank you to my teammates at Real Madrid and the national team.”
He tweeted on Twitter, “Very proud to win the Ballon d’Or for the second time, it means so much to me. I thank my teammates”.
