Extra body parts can occur more often than people might think. There are some medical reasons behind developing extra body parts but in Hindu mythology additional limbs and heads are considered a sign of power.

In Greek mythology, Artemis, the goddess of fertility, was sometimes represented as having numerous breasts. This was particularly notable in the cult of Artemis (Diana) celebrated in the ancient city of Ephesus, in modern Turkey.

In Japanese mythology, the God of the sea and storms, Susanoo, is sometimes depicted as having a third arm.

In the Bible, Goliath has brothers that have six fingers and six toes.

Here is list of 5 people who were born with an extra body part:

 Lakshmi Tatma

Lakshmi Tatma an Indian girl born in 2005 in a village in Araria district, Bihar, having 4 arms and 4 legs. She was actually one of a pair of ischiopagus conjoined twins one of which was headless because its head had atrophied and chest had not fully developed in the womb, causing the appearance of one child with four arms and four legs. It took 30 surgeons more than 27 hours to not only remove her extra limbs, but also rebuild her body and save her organs.

Manar Maged and Islaam

After undergoing many fertility treatments, Egyptian Naglaa Mohamed was thrilled to finally be pregnant with twins. Her pregnancy was extremely difficult, twins were conjoined at the head, but an emergency c-section revealed something even more unusual: the second twin, named Islaam, was just a head. Islaam’s head was living off of his sister’s organs and caused her so much strain that she suffered multiple heart failures. The only chance for survival was for doctors to surgically remove the extra head.

On February 19, 2005, 10-month-old Manar Maged underwent a successful 13-hour surgery in Egypt. The under developed conjoined twin, Islaam, was attached to Manar’s head and was facing upward. Islaam could smile and even blink, but doctors determined she had to be removed, and that she couldn’t survive on her own. Manar died fourteen months after the surgery, just days before her second birthday, due to a severe infection in her brain.
