Global Diversity Award to Amitabh Bachchan
Global Diversity Award for the year 2013 has been given to Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan at the State Room of Britain’s House of Commons in the Palace of Westminster on 11 September. During the ceremony, Bercow praised Big B saying, “He is a role model and most famous Indian film star of all time and he deserves the award,”
“I am simply overwhelmed…no actor has ever been given this privilege…I am blessed,” the 71-year-old actor wrote on his Twitter page.
Amitabh was overwhelmed with love and joy to receive the award. He also thanked people from the UK and also his family members for their support.
He was the Guest of Honour for the Charity on Diabetes that was hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron’s wife, Samantha Cameron.
This is not the first time Bachchan has supported the charity. Last year, on the occasion of his 70th Birthday, Silver Star gave Amitabh a unique birthday present of a Mobile Diabetes Unit for the city of Mumbai.
The unit, which travels to the city’s most disadvantaged areas giving free diabetes tests, was named ‘Amitabh’ in recognition of his support.
